SAMANTHA JANE MASON
NAME: Samantha Jane Mason
GENDER: Female
AGE&YEAR: 18 & 5th Year
PROBLEM: Suicidal
RISK: Moderate
PLAY BY: Kate Voegele
APPEARANCE:
Sam has long black hair that cooperates some days more then others. Most of the time she doesn’t bother with it, though on occasion she throws it up if it is bothering her. Her eyes are a dark color brown almost black and usually surrounded by mascara when they trust her with it. She stands at about 5’8” and has a very thin build and pale complexion. Her arms and ribcage are lined with scars from cutting herself and on her left palm is the scar from the one time she burned herself.
As far as style is concerned she wears a lot of layered tee’s because she is ashamed of her scars. Normally those are paired with jeans and Chuck Taylor’s. Most days she will wear a hoodie. Her wardrobe is full of dark colors, the majority being black, blue and grey because she is convinced people won’t notice her if she wears boring clothes. She does have some that are more colorful, though the Academy won’t let her wear red.
PERSONALITY:
Sam is the type of person who comes off as ‘normal’. She has no problems interacting with other people and helping where she is needed. She doesn’t think twice about being involved and to the average person she seems rather outgoing. She loves music and spends most of her time sitting at the piano, though she rarely plays.
You wouldn’t realize anything was wrong with her until you asked her about herself. She gets quiet, defensive and extremely guarded. When it comes to talking about her problems she will tell you she doesn’t have any and if you ask about the scars she’ll ignore you. Sam is extremely self-conscious and afraid of failure. She doesn’t take criticism well and tends to shy away from conflict. When ever she fells the most threatened she tends to run and that’s about the time she becomes a danger to herself.
HISTORY:
Samantha Jane Mason had a fairly normal life growing up. She was the youngest of four siblings with three older brothers. Her father, Jonathan Mason, was a football coach at the local university and her mother, Lorraine Mason, was a lawyer. Following in the foot steps of three very athletic brothers the pressure on Sam to succeed was indescribable. She started gymnastics at 5, soccer at 7 and finally settled on track at 11. At first she lived for the thrill of competition, but when her dreams changed it became more then she could handle.
As she got older the rules changed, her brothers ran around free and she was under lock and key. If her grades weren’t good enough she was scrutinized, if she dressed wrong she was badgered and if she didn’t do well at sports she was practically ignored. Soon the feeling of failure began to get to her. For Sam drugs and drinking were never an option, but after she accidentally cut herself washing dishes she found her poison.
The cutting went on for six months before anyone noticed. Determined his daughter was crazy she was first sent to see a counselor. Coach Mason couldn’t afford to have his reputation ruined and her mother was too preoccupied with work. After that things only got worse. It all went down hill when Sam attempted suicide after coming in second at regional's.
Immediately following the incident her parents divorced, only making things worse. Sam was left in the care of her absentee mother and her brothers stayed with their father. The three of them blaming her for their parent’s divorce, unaware of their father’s affair. After living with her mother for a year Sam attempted to commit suicide again and as a result was enrolled in Rosedale Academy.
