SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME Titus Greyfield pushed open the double doors of the academy’s library. He strutted, as most attractive young men often do, to the back of the silent room. It was a ghost town besides a young teacher and the sleeping librarian. He walked past the female teacher and smiled at her. She smiled back and tried not to stare as Titus walked away. Titus was definitely used to being stared at. Usually by girls and gays but sometime he would get that angry glair from straight guys.
The library. It was the only place in the world where it was okay to smell like you hadn’t bathed in a week. Your foul body odor would blend right in with that of the prehistoric smelling books and the crazy old librarian lady behind the desk. The smell was enough to keep anyone in their right mind out. So naturally a fresh smelling Titus liked coming here. Most kids were blissfully unaware of the fact that the academy even had a library. Not that they would know what to do anyway. Titus was secure with the knowledge that most teenagers in America had no clue what a library was. So solitude was the main reason he came to the unknown part of the school. There was absolutely nowhere in the school that wasn’t flooded with students. Titus hated it. He hated Rosedale.
The young man walked back to the back corner of the library. There he found the book that he’d been reading for the last couple of days. Titus wasn’t in the habit for checking books out. He figured that if the book always stayed in the library than he’d always be able to find it. The book was WAR AND PEACE by Elbert Hubbard. It wasn’t something that he would normally choose to read, not that he would choose to read at all, but there was just something about how the book was writing that drew him in. He was a bit of a slave to this book for the time being. He was a dork.
There he sat, in the corner of the library, with his nose in a book and her headphones in her ears. All day Titus had been pretty distracted. He thought that maybe a bit of light reading would help. But of course it didn’t. Three pages into his reading Titus mind was already wandering. He though about the cute young teacher at the front of the library. That made Titus think about student teacher relationships and if it would be appropriate for him, being nineteen, to get with her. Titus had an extremely random thought process because he than began to think about the school catching on fire. His music was way too loud so he wouldn’t be able to hear it and nobody would know he was back here. The boy decided that he’d be pretty pissed if he dies in school fire.

In the last year Ryan has only set foot in a library because she was walking home from a party and needed a place to puke her guts out, otherwise she hasn’t bee in a library for the right reasons for a year. Unlike some people that Ryan knows she can actually find her way around a library, of course she has never particularly enjoyed being there but she figured it was a skill that was useful and she could use it in college or something. Well so much for college at the rate that being at Rosedale was going Ryan was starting to wonder if she’ll ever be able to go to college and go to the parties without being one of those high school kids that crashed. So going to the library now would shock most people that Ryan left back home. Of course Ryan wasn’t going to the library for the reason people normally would, it was all because of last night. Last night a few alcoholics like herself that she had met in therapy had organized a group to sneak out of the Academy so they could hit up Mooki’s, the local bar where the old lady that owned the place didn’t care how old you were as long as you were paying for something. Putting a bunch of alcoholics in a bar no matter how old they are is a bad idea. Honestly Ryan doesn’t even remember getting home much less the majority of the night. All that mattered now though was that she woke up this morning with a killer hangover and no form of medication or another drink to make it go away. As she walked down the hallways the noise was killing her already pounding head and the bright lights were just making it worse. There was only one place that Ryan could think of that would actually be a good sanctuary from everything that was taunting her hangover, the library. Luckily Ryan remembered something from the tour so she pushed through the crowd until she arrived in the library. It always amazed Ryan that no matter where you were when you went into a library they always smelt the same. Even at Rosedale Academy the library smelt like soggy and moldy paper. However it didn’t take long to get over the smell so Ryan walked toward the back in hopes to find a good dim spot in the library where she could curl up and ignore the world. It didn’t take long for Ryan to get to the back of the library but when she did she wished she was back in the loud crowd of the hallway. Of course when she just wanted to relax there had to be the one person in the Academy that found a way to get under her skin. Having only been at the Academy a few weeks it was hard to believe that Ryan could’ve already met someone that pissed her off but here Titus Greyfield sat in the corner of the library with his nose buried in a book. If he was just doing that though Ryan wouldn’t be annoyed, but he just had to have his music playing so loud that she could hear it yards away. The last thing that Ryan wanted was to have to listen to the muffled tunes that were pumping out of Titus’ headphones when she wanted to sleep. Glaring at Titus Ryan marched over to him. Being four feet eleven inches tall and small blond most people didn’t think that Ryan could be any kind of threat, but they were so wrong. Marching over to where he sat Ryan stood there and cleared her throat, either he was ignoring her or the music was so loud that he couldn’t hear a thing but all he did was sit there reading his book. Irritation pulsing through her veins Ryan reached down and yanked his headphones right out of his ears. Hey dumbass it’s a fucking library some people like it to be quiet in here Ryan practically snarled. The last thing that someone wanted to do was to mess with Ryan McGreen with a hangover.
