JACK LEYTON DELANEY
NAME: Jack Leyton Delaney
GENDER: male
AGE&YEAR: eighteen&five
PROBLEM: mental disorder: borderline personality disorder, self-defeating personality disorder, self-mutilation
RISK: medium
PLAY BY: joseph gordon-levitt
APPEARANCE:
Jack has jet black hair that often appears unkept and very scraggly looking, he is seldom able to tame it so he just allows it do whatever it wants to do. On occasion though he is able to slick his hair back and make it look presentable, he does do so every so often. His hair normally nearly falls about halfway to his shoulders, which might be one of the reasons why it always looks so messy due to its length. Despite its messy appearance, his hair always looks clean and cared for in its own particular way. Jack has deep brown eyes, although his eye color is very rich it is also very dark. Even with their dark color his eyes hold a certain degree of power to them, it isn't uncommon to see them examining every inch of the room or his current surroundings. His eyes don't exactly have the same piercing affect as most would in his state, but they still do prove rather intimidating. The worst set of scars that he has can be found across his forearms, due to a car accident that he was in when he was about thirteen. He was sitting in the front seat at the time and the windshield was smashed in during the wreck and the fragments of shattered glass happened to cut him up quite a bit. The most damage was done to his forearms because he had raised them up in defense when the accident happened. Aside from these marks as well as a few other scars from cuts and a variety of minor injuries over the years he doesn't have any other notable marks.
PERSONALITY:
Jack is kind to a degree but at first glance can appear a little stand-offish and lacking warmth, but once you get to know him he seems to warm up a bit in that sense. He is always distrustful of new people at first, something he learned when he was younger from his Mother due to her mistake of trusting the wrong man. Yet his trust is not that hard to gain and even easier to keep once people have proven themselves to him repeatedly. Despite this outward appearance of trust, Jack never tells people much about himself at first, over time though small bits of information are continually disclosed. Only his closest friends seem to know just about everything that there is to know about him and even then there still might be more left for them to learn. He normally talks very little about his parents. He is normally very closed off about discussing himself or anything that might be considered overly personal information around anyone.
Jack is very quick on his feet, he always seems to have a comeback stashed away somewhere and he never fails to have something to say about everything. Yes, this could probably get annoying to a degree if a lot of time is spent with him but his witty comebacks always seem to extract something of a laugh from someone. He barely ever hesitates when put into a situation that might be considered fairly dangerous or even intimidating because he seems to crave the chance to take a risk or to cause some trouble. Although this trait does not exceed so far that he would go out of his way to get into trouble, it only pertains when it happens to come to him. With the amount of level-headed decisions that Jack makes on a daily basis you would think that this would not be a problem for him, but it is. He loves to take risks and he always has trouble backing down whenever one presents itself. It does not take him long to work up enough courage or confidence to take on any sort of risk or challenge that might present itself. This is not to say that he succeeds at what he does a good percentage of the time because he doesn't, he does about average in that department.
The origin of his manipulation skills are uncertain, but his Mother insists that they have come from his true biological Father. Jack does on occasion enjoy voicing his opinion, but he is not as quick to use his manipulation skills as some would be. He has tried his hand at coercing people and has found it unfulfilling, but he is not past using it if he feels it is something absolutely necessary. Jack has not found a situation though recently that has called for it, so he has not used it in a quite a while. This might also tie in a bit to his untrusting nature because these skills are rather useful in that area. Jack is not extraordinarily good at reading other people's emotions or feelings, but he has enough experience with most people to know when they are having a bad day or even when they are lying -- that is so say if they are bad enough liars that he can see right through their lies. He does not have much of a deceitful side to him, this is probably as far as it goes but that does not mean that one won't develop because there is ample opportunity for it to happen. It is seldom that he has hard feelings towards anyone, but when he does he might allow them to get out of control on occasion.
In school Jack easily excelled in most of his subjects, although he did get the occasional poor test grade in literature he was relatively good at all his other subjects. He found himself easily gifted in both math and history alike, although he favored history over math. He had never been a very logical person, and even now has a tendency to make decisions that have little sense to them. He has something of an addiction for landing himself into sticky situations or situations which would be somewhat harmful to him. Psychologically he unconsciously welcomes any sort of situation, which would put him at a disadvantage whether it be physically or verbally. These challenges come in all forms for Jack, but he never seems to fail to work himself into a situation of that sort.
HISTORY:
Despite her good family name Isabella had few pennies to her name, the same went for her parents, the fortune had been slowly squandered on petty things and of course poor excuses for servants. Besides who wanted to believe the girl anyways? She was the one who had ended up pregnant at only eighteen years of age, just out of secondary school without any stable occupation or credibility to boot. Kieran Worthington happened to have the whole world on his side at that moment considering the more famed status that his family held amongst the small community. In spite of all these painful events Isabella had the baby and she stuck with her decision to raise him with no knowledge of his father, even though she knew the truth and no one else would appear to believe it. With barely any money in her pockets and only her family name (which had now been sullied due to the birth of her fatherless son) she went to work at several jobs in a variety of places throughout North Carolina. She did what she could for money to raise her son, who spent much of his time in the company of her poor parents. As entertaining as it had been, Isabella's parents were relatively upset considering they had little to eat to begin with. Yet within the next year luck would strike in the strangest of ways, for Isabella was promoted -- she was now a manager at one of her many jobs which meant that she could have a pay increase. With that raise came to opportunity for her to finally move out of her parents house -- which she did readily.
Being so young at the time Jack barely seemed to notice the difference, he had always been a quiet child and continued to act as such through the years as he grew. Things seemed relatively normal for a stretch of time, even Isabella's poor reputation appeared to be fading fast in the eye of the community. By the time that Jack turned seven she was suddenly an object to be desired again and she was frequently running in and out of the house, leaving Jack with neighbors and anyone willing to sit with him. It wasn't until he turned eight did another door of opportunity open up to him -- one that he would much regret having been exposed to when he was older. Isabella had happened upon an old man who was giving away free piano lessons at one of her jobs, he happened to mention it in passing when she told him of her young son. With the opportunity to have her son cultured in some form of musical talent, Isabella could not resist the offer, so she took the man up on it. Nelson Acheson, at fifty two, was a very good pianist that was to say among other things. He begun lessons with Jack the next week and things started out as any other normal music lesson would, Jack was dropped off at his house which was conveniently only seven blocks away from his own. As mentioned prior the first lesson was uneventful, a few notes were learned here and there and Jack was patted on the back and then sent away after an hour had seized. This routinue continued until suddenly everything changed the fifth time that Jack had made the trek to Acheson's house. This lesson and those that would follow were ones that Jack would eventually have a hard time forgetting because he would remain confused about their contents until much later in his short life. Truthfully, although he was a piano teacher and on occasion a kindly old man, Acheson was a child molester.
Jack begun to hate piano lessons and would have complained about them, but his mother was so pleased with the progress he had made and with hearing him play. She even proposed sometimes that they should buy a piano for the house so that he could play for her -- that was to say once they got the money for it. Jack found that he couldn't speak up about his hatred for the piano because he was finally pleasing his mother, she seemed happy for once. So the lessons continued on for five more months, five long arduous months he would walk to that dreaded house once a week - on occasion twice a week to "play" that stupid piano. Finally one day Jack could take it no more, he told his mother that he wanted to quit piano lessons. He was nearly nine years of age and he could no longer stand for it, even though he would never tell his mother why he wanted to quit his lessons he just told her that he had to. He gave a few week excuses and at first she didn't seem to understand, but after he had repeated his wishes to her several more weeks she finally decided that it was time for him to move on. She thanked Nelson Acheson for his kindness and insisted that Jack would continued to work on his piano skills, but that she would be sending him instead somewhere else. Of course she had all intentions of making Jack continue on with the piano considering she had saved up all her pennies to purchase him one, yet she would not force him to go back to Nelson Acheson's house for lessons. Isabella dreamed of hiring a private tutor instead to come to the house as soon as she saved up enough money. Although she did have these aspirations, it didn't mean that they would materialize immediately -- she did buy Jack a piano for his birthday and he was all too horrified at the gift or at her wishes that he play for her on occasion. He did play, but he refused to play much other than a few select songs for her.
Unfortunately the piano would remain in his life, although he had successfully rid himself of his harmful instructor, his mother refused to let him fall out of practice. Jack continued to play right up until the moment he left the house for that final times years later. That school year would pass by quickly, but it was not without problems, suddenly Jack had begun to act up in school. His mother was called in on several occasions, but the situations were quickly settled. A few years would pass without trouble until Jack entered middle school, that was where things begun to heat up again. Trouble seemed to find him at every corner, it was almost as if he had gone looking for it, but the strange thing was that in every situation he appeared to be the victim. Throughout middle school he was involved in a variety of fights all of which he lost, both verbal and physical. The authorities at the school including the teachers and the principles along with his mother could not seem to understand this pattern. The theory of him merely having become a favorite target for bullying was quickly wearing thin as he approached his last year in middle school, it seemed like something much more. The last year of middle school for Jack was strangely quiet as he made his transition into high school, it was during that year that he started to self injure, which provided for the sudden calm in his life.
High school was a rocky period for Jack was well, the trouble that he had had before seemed now only slight compared to what it would become now. His drug use and self-injury were sporadic and followed now pattern. He begun to skip school a lot after his first year and even at one point stayed away for a whole month. His mother was displeased with his performance in school, but without fail at least once every week he continued to play the piano for her. He was nearly an expert now as he had been practicing everyday and learning new songs for her. In addition to this he held down a variety of very unhealthy relationships, at times even trading sex for drugs. He could never remain long with someone, his longest relationship lasted just about two months before he could take it no longer.
Once his mother found out that he had skipped out school for nearly a whole month she was furious, she threatened him but it did not work in the least. That night Jack ran away for the first time. He stayed away for a month, but soon he grew tired of being away because he had exhausted his supply of money and drugs. He came back to a very disordered household his mother had been worried about him, but recently she had also been wrapped up in her own affairs with her boyfriends and her work. She did yell, but she seemed to have given up almost entirely as she was frustrated with him. She knew nothing of his drug habits, only of his inconsistent behaviors so she did not theorize so far as to accuse him of those things. His behavior continued to deteriorate along with his condition, his mother paid him little heed now that he had begun to go back to school although not as regularly as he should have he did it frequent enough for her not to notice now. She now refused to believe that there was anything at all wrong with Jack. The police showed up on her door several times before Jack's seventeenth birthday, and every time his mother sent them away swearing that she would take care of her son.
Shortly after his seventeenth birthday Jack was brought up on charges of drug possession, that was to say until they got a good look at his arm which he had carved up awful nice that. His mother was called in and she brought her boyfriend with her, they were strongly advised that something needed to be done with Jack. The papers were signed and he was sent away Rosedale for a variety of things after undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. Nearly a year later he is still there.
